Celkem zajimave story z FSM aneb jak to vlastne je s nominacemi a vitezi na Oscarech ;)
I produced the A Little Romance LP (and procured the title for Varese - old Bob forgot to include that little bit of info on the CD release - oops).
And here's the little amusing tale I can tell you:
I loved the film, got the album rights, sequenced the album (which, believe me, was not easy), and out it came. Towards the end of the year, I went to the boss man and said I had an idea if he was willing to go there. My idea was to send copies of the LP to the music branch of the Academy, something that to my knowledge had never been done. We went back and forth on it, and in the end he agreed and we did. Next thing we know, the score gets nominated, which is most amusing since Vivaldi plays a not insignificant part in the score. Then, we send off more LPs. Next thing we know, I'm watching the Oscars and it WINS - over some mighty big scores and composers.
Needless to say, we opened a rather large can of worms and the practice of sending LPs to the Academy members escalated and ended up in the sorry state it is today, where they now get EVERYTHING - movies, CDs, presskits, gifts, incredible packages, fruit baskets and heaven knows what else. |
