První díl skládal např Normand Corbeil. U ostatních se bude jednat spíš o kolektivní práci. Pochybuju, že by Marco při současný vytíženosti měl čas vracet se do televize. Je ale potvrzený, že minimálně "pár" minutama k následujícím dílům přispěl mj. i Marcus Trumpp

The Hurt Locker Composers: Marco Beltrami and Buck Sanders

Director's orders: Kathryn I think she said she was a fan of "3:10 to Yuma" and actually had some of that temped into her movie a little bit so that's what got her interested. The main thing at first was that the film was supposed to be a quasi-documentary type style and that music shouldn't call attention to itself. She wanted us to work hand in hand with the sound department and create this kind of manipulated world. Even though it was supposed to have a documentary feel she wanted to have the drama but have the music and sound work in tandem to provide a powerful experience for the viewer. But at the same time she didn't want it to point any fingers at itself. [Beltrami]

Key scene: The key thing was coming up with the thematic material because she had some "3:10 to Yuma" in it, and there was this sense that this guy was a cowboy-he was a loner doing his own thing and I guess that's what inspired this idea of having this Western type theme to it. Coming up with that so it sounded appropriate for the movie was the difficult part. [Beltrami]

In the sniper scene in the desert, that's the first spot where the theme comes in where the firefight has settled down and they're waiting for the snipers to pop up. A lot of that was manipulated string stuff that we recorded here and then manipulated and tried to fit in the environment that the sound designer had set up in the film-the wind and the interesting textures he'd come up with. Figuring out ways to blend in with that without being too dramatic with the scoring and letting the film do the heavy lifting. [Sanders]

Big theme: There are elements we integrate but it's not going to be anything that is authentic Iraqi music or anything. The experience is of the American troops that we are with and it's their perception and what they're going into emotionally. You do hear calls to prayer and some Iraqi ethnic overtones but it's not meant to be any sort of classical realism in the score in terms of being true to classical forms of the region. The movie's not really about good versus evil or finger pointing that the Iraqis are bad-it's more about this guy's job and what he has to go through. [Beltrami]

There's almost 55 minutes of music and I don't think people would realize that-I was surprised when I counted it up recently because it's been over a year since we worked on it. It doesn't feel like 55 minutes of music but it is there-it's so just so well integrated into the sound mix of the film. It's a really well mixed film and there was only one mixer-there are usually three guys that do that. [Sanders]

Palette: We used a cello, an erhu player, some ethnic reeds and sho, a windblown instrument, and a male vocalist and guitar and prepared piano. Most of the stuff was created by processing and manipulating those sounds. [Beltrami]

The job: The majority of it was reinforcing the tension. It's more the tension glue-the camerawork was done in that documentary style and they had four cameras running at all times so the actors were never acting to the camera because they never knew where the camera was. It's very chaotic and a lot of the music is very subdued and long with tense textures, so it builds with the scene. [Beltrami]

KNOWING (Marco Beltrami, Varese Sarabande)Though faced with Hollywood world where the idea of big, thematic scores seem headed towards the apocalypse, Marco Beltrami defiantly goes for grandly stirring motifs, first hearing the oncoming end of the world with fearful, frantic string movements before reaching the final knowledge that family is all. It’s a sorrowful, if somehow optimistic epiphany that Beltrami knocks home with a devastating emotional wallop, hearing the angelic, final parting of a family with an orchestral passion worthy of Richard Strauss. And it’s these soaring, transcendent melodies of death and transfiguration that make KNOWING the year’s best score.
