A professor explains that in some languages, a sentence as a whole is either positive or negative, whereas in languages like English using an even number of negative words in the same sentence effectively results in the negatives "cancelling out." He notes, however, that the opposite is of course not the case -- that a double positive is never a negative. Then a voice from the back of the room: "Yeah, right!" - česky by se to dalo přeložit jako "Jo, jasně" a říct to se správným ironickým nádechem :-) |
