NP: James Horner - Troy - bavi me to....zvlastni vec, kdyz jsem kratce po roku 2000 zacal objevovat filmovou hudbu, tak me Horner krom par flaku a 80tych let az tak nebral...ted po 10ti letech, kdy uz se vic nez pul Hollywoodu snazi byti Zimmerem, me tyhle ciste zalezitosti masivniho orchestru zacinaji vice brat a to i u Hornera...Zimmera zboznuju, ale jeden staci :-)

BLACK GOLDOriginal Motion Picture Soundtrack

Music Composed by
James Horner
(Titanic, Avatar. Aliens)

Under the unforgiving desert sky, two warring leaders come face to face.

The victorious Nesib, Emir of Hobeika, lays down his peace terms to his rival Amar, Sultan of Salmaah. The two men agree that neither can lay claim to the area of no man’s land between them called The Yellow Belt. In return, Nesib will adopt Amar’s two boys Saleeh and Auda as a guarantee that neither man can invade the other.

Twelve years later, Saleeh and Auda have grown into young men. Saleeh, the warrior, itches to escape his gilded cage and return to his father’s land. Auda cares only for books and the pursuit of knowledge. One day, their adopted father Nesib is visited by an American from Texas. He tells the Emir that his land is blessed with oil and promises him riches beyond his wildest imagination. Nesib imagines a realm of infinite possibility, a kingdom with roads, schools and hospitals all paid for by the black gold beneath the barren sand. There is only one problem. The precious oil is located in the Yellow Belt.

The stage is now set for an epic showdown for control of the Yellow Belt, for control of the two kingdoms, for control of the future.

James Horner is one of the most celebrated modern film composers. Having created the music for dozens of the most memorable and successful films of the past two decades, Horner was honored with two Academy Awards and two Golden Globes for James Cameron’s Titanic.

In addition, he has earned Academy Award nominations for his Original Scores for Avatar, House of Sand and Fog, A Beautiful Mind, Braveheart, Apollo 13, Field of Dreams and Aliens, and for the Original Song “Somewhere Out There“ from An American Tale.

Horner’s sweeping dramatic score for Black Gold is an integral element to the film which will transport audiences into the heart of the Arabian desert.

Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures will open the film internationally beginning December 23, 2011.

INTRADA ANNOUNCES:

WOLFEN
Music Composed and Conducted by JAMES HORNER
INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 185

The 1981 Orion Pictures' film Wolfen had a harrowing journey to the screen. Amidst the behind the scenes turmoil was a call to replace the original score, and James Horner was hired to write a completely new score with only 12 days to provide 39 minutes of music. Horner took a warmer approach than its predecessor, balancing melodic material with fast-driving, percussive action-horror music. The score is compelling in mood and color, alluding to both the archaic natural world and supernatural forces with great subtlety and sophistication. Rarely does a young composer come along with a distinctive musical voice and the ability to craft it so utterly in support of a film, ultimately paving the way for Horner's hiring on the following years' Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, elevating him to A-list status.

Horner (who orchestrated the score himself) called for a 67-piece orchestra consisting of 20 violins, 10 violas, 8 celli, 6 basses, 6 woodwinds, 2 trumpets, 4 French horns, 3 trombones, 1 tuba, 1 harp, 3 keyboards and 3 percussion. The percussionists played a variety of unusual instruments—tom toms, tam tam, trans celesta, plastic pipe, waterphone, rub rods, Indian rattles, bull roar, wind machine and song bells—in addition to conventional chimes, vibraphone, xylophone, bass drum and timpani. The keyboards were enhanced by the distinctive bass of Craig Huxley’s blaster beam, heard in a variety of sci-fi scores of the period. Horner also applied echoplex tape loops to acoustic instruments for haunting and eerie effects.

This premiere release from Intrada presents the complete score from the original multi-track master elements stored at Warner Bros. This dynamic, crisp recording gives the score striking new life and this release fills a noticeable gap in James Horner's discography.

Wolfen tells the story of NYPD detective Dewey Wilson and Dr. Rebecca Neff, a young psychologist who specializes in studying terrorists, who are investigating a brutal murder in Battery Park. With the help of a medical examiner and a zoologist, Wilson and Neff discover that the killers are actually wolfen: super-intelligent wolves who survive by preying on society’s forgotten ones—the poor and homeless. Wolfen features Albert Finney, Diane Venora, Edward James Olmo's and Gregory Hines.

BUYSOUNDTRAX Records presents the original soundtrack to HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP, also known as MONSTER overseas, featuring music composed by James Horner (STAR TREK II & III, KRULL, ALIENS, AVATAR) for the 1980 horror film directed by Barbara Peeters and Jimmy T. Murakami (WHEN THE WIND BLOWS, CHRISTMAS CAROL: THE MOVIE, HEAVY METAL), produced by the great Roger Corman, starring Doug McClure (THE LAND THAT TIME FORGOT, AT THE EARTH’S CORE, WARLORDS OF ATLANTIS), Ann Turkel (THE CASSANDRA CROSSING, RAVAGERS), Vic Morrow (COMBAT, POLICE STORY, THE BAD NEWS BEARS), Cindy Weintraub, Denise Galik, Lynn Theel and Anthony Pena.

HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP tells the story of the people of Noyo, a Pacific Northwestern fishing town who find themselves in the middle of a depression because of a decline in the local salmon population. The townspeople are divided into two groups. Some people, like fisherman Jim Hill (McClure) believe that the new Cannery is responsible for the drought. Others, like town bigot Hank Slattery (Morrow) believe that the Cannery is a blessing and will bring prosperity to the town. The corporation that owns the Cannery enlists Dr. Susan Drake (Turkel) to find out what is happening to all the salmon. Something has stirred in the waters around Noyo and people have begun to disappear, or worse. Aided in her investigation by Jim Hill, Dr. Drake learns that an unusual amount of chemicals are being dumped by the corporation into the local waters, causing the creation of fish-like humanoid mutations with an appetite for human flesh but also an insatiable salmon-like urge to mate with Noyo’s female population. As the night of the annual Salmon festival approaches, tensions begin to rise among the townspeople. Can Jim and Dr. Drake reach the festival in time to warn everyone or will it be too late?

HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP was an early effort from composer James Horner and represented his first full sci-fi/horror complete score, his third score for New World Pictures and producer Roger Corman. After earning a Doctorate in Music Composition and Theory from UCLA, where he studied with composer Paul Chihara, among others, he discovered his passion for film music when he was asked to score several short films for the American Film Institute. This led to his employ at New World Pictures, where he worked with a number of young directors, writers and producers, many of whom would feature largely in his later career, including Ron Howard, James Cameron, John Sayles and Gale Anne Hurd. Despite being saturated with the influence of other composers such as Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams and Laurence Rosenthal, Horner’s music for HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP remains a memorable and effective suspense score decades later, retaining many evidences of techniques Horner would later develop with more freedom in scores like THE HAND, DEADLY BLESSING, WOLFEN and ALIENS, such as the percussion effects and reflective string techniques to generate suspense and the intertwining string writing and marauding use of percussion during the film’s moments of action.

Previously released on a scarce compact disc by GNP Records in 2001, BUYSOUNDTRAX Records now presents a new release of the original motion picture soundtrack to HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP, featuring music composed by James Horner. In addition, we are including a suite of music prepared by composer Christopher Lennertz (SUPERNATURAL, HOP, MEET THE SPARTANS, ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS) from the 1996 remake of HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP, also produced by Roger Corman, directed by Jeff Yonis and starring Robert Carradine, Emma Samms, Mark Rolston, Bert Remsen and Clint Howard. Finally, we conclude our release with a suite of outtakes in mono from James Horner’s score, taken from the best available source, the isolated score track presented on the original laserdisc release of the film from Image Entertainment. The suite includes a different mix of the Main and End Titles music than appears on the original soundtrack album. The booklet features exclusive notes by author Randall Larson, including new comments by composer Christopher Lennertz. The music has been newly mastered for the highest fidelity possible by James Nelson of Digital Outland.
