the world premiere of the Double Concerto, composed by James Horner, will be held in November 2014 for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra's 175th anniversary. Regarding this work, there's also a note from the composer, dated 2011:
"I thought it would be a great challenge for myself as a composer to write a concerto for violin and cello. I was also so honoured that Mari and Håkon, musicians of such high caliber and musicality would ask me to write a piece for them. All of the music I write is always geared towards writing expressly for film and the cinema. To be able to write a piece for Håkon and Mari and have it performed live many times was simply too great an opportunity to turn down. Although it is a little bit intimidating to write a new double concerto after Brahms wrote such a famous one so many years ago, I look forward to the challenge and beauty that I know will result." |
