James Horner scores 'Ask the Dust':Paramount Pictures has confirmed to Music from the Movies that James Horner will compose the music for Ask the Dust, the film version of John Fante's classic novel. The film is produced by Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner, and helmed by Robert Towne, who wrote the legendary screenplay for Chinatown and whose other writing credits include Mission: Impossible, The Firm and Days of Thunder. In Ask the Dust, Towne has adapted the Fante novel for the screen and directs his first feature since Without Limits (1998). Principal photography started on 3 May.
Ask the Dust, which has been described as Robert Towne's dream project, features Salma Hayek, Colin Farrell, Idina Menzel and Donald Sutherland. It takes place in the 1930s and is a passionate romantic drama about a Mexican woman who meets an Italian man while trying to find a wealthy American to marry. The film is scheduled to open in December next year, making it a possible contender for the 2006 Academy Awards.
