První ohlasy na Ready Player One:
I got to see an early screening of the movie a few days ago, and the theme, like the whole movie and the book it's based on, is a throwback to the 80s. But the music really works well and has many layers that are both over-the-top and surprisingly subtle. Most everyone already knows about the Max Steiner pastiche, but there's more as well from the 70s, 80s and 90s, including some references to Silvestri's own earlier works. Some of it gets lost in some of the movie's more bombastic scenes, but my first impression is that it's one of the best scores Silvestri has written in a while -- a lot of fun, a strong symphonic soundtrack. After seeing the movie, I immediately preordered the CD.
And, by the way, I highly recommend the movie itself too. It's been too long since I had that much fun and walked out a theater feeling wholly fulfilled. It's so unbelievably crammed with references to movies, music, videogames and pop culture, that I'm sure I missed at least a few. Not sure today's "kids" will appreciate all of it, but I hope it's a big success. Too many original ideas get ignored in favor of the next sequel, prequel, remake or reimagining. |
